Thanks for the great video. Seems like the "gang" was very late getting home on Sunday.

From All Aboard Group.

A friend encountered some congestion on the rails yesterday:

"Spent Sunday on the Mass Bay RRE excursion from Worcester to the Valley RR and back. Due back 9 p.m., we got delayed by traffic on the 20-mile stretch of the NEC, then stopped for an hour by a building fire nearby the track in Norwich CT. Got back to Worcester 11:45 p.m., nearly three hours late."

Wow, when has a steam engine pulled such an assortment of cars? Especially the stainless ones in pseudo-Amtrak striping.

With the sale of the P&W to G&W, there had been speculation that the era of
P&W passenger excursions would end, once any remaining contracts for such
trips were fulfilled last fall. However, some good news on that front, as the
Mass Bay RRE has announced that the P&W and the MBRRE will again run the
"Two Rivers Steam Special" again this year on October 28th.

Also, the MBRRE "Callboy" newsletter reported that the Blackstone Valley Tourism
Council will run an excursion from Woonsocket to Putnam on October 21 for the
Putnam Fall Festival and the Polar Express trains will also run in 2017.

Rode the train this past Saturday and as always, a great trip put on by Mass Bay RRE and the railroads involved (P&W, Amtrak, VRR).

This was my first time riding on a trip on any of P&W trackage. Around Plainfield (and another place further north on the return trip - it was dark out by then), we double-stopped at each grade crossing for a second, then continued on (meaning, we stopped, then moved briefly, then stopped again, then proceeded onward). Each crossing was active when we crossed it. Is there some issue with the crossings not activating until you're close to them? If that's the case, then why the double stop?

We ran pretty close to the schedule and got back to Worcester relatively on-time, perhaps 5 minutes late, but not bad, considering the railroads involved, the distance, etc.

On the NEC, according to my phone GPS, we were going about 40 mph. Is that top speed for the power (a pair of B40s)? Or does Amtrak limit the P&W to that speed?

Here's the photos I took of the trip..

May have been running as a "freight" on the NEC by Amtrak's rules,P&W's passenger cars may not be Amtrak certified.
