Boxcars!

Postby thebigham » Thu Aug 12, 2010 10:57 am

During the second week of July, the Arcade yard had 5 boxcars! A&A fans are used to seeing covered hoppers and tank cars.

Two boxcars were at the unloading dock for Sixt Lumber.

Two boxcars had been pulled from storage at the end of track in North Java and moved to Arcade:

And the old box car used for storage sits at the end of the coach track:

This boxcar is on display in Arcade:

Another boxcar is on display at Curriers:

Two boxcars are still at the end of track in North Java.

That's 7 boxcars still on the A&A.

Boxcars that have left the property:

These two boxcars were sold to the WNYR Historical Society and and are on display in Orchard park:

The two boxcars in Springville have been removed. We are still trying to find out where they went.

Thanks,

Chris

Any chance you could take pictures of the boxcars at the loading dock? That would be really helpful.

Where exactly is Sixt Lumber? I don't believe I have ever seen it before. If you are in the area, can you take some pictures? I went to their website but didn't see the A&A siding, nor do I see it on Mapquest.

Sixt Lumber is in Chaffee next to the B&P main.

Sixt unloads its boxcars at the loading dock in the Arcade yard.

Centerbeams are unloaded at Arcade Junction.

It's on the other side of Cattaraugus Creek in Erie county. Follow North St west out of town and it eventually turns into Schutt Rd and then crosses Rt 16 and merges with Rt 39 to Sardina and Springville.

When I was a kid growing up in Yorkshire, my bedroom window looked out to the north and in a short break in the trees I could see the PRR Buffalo-Harrisburg line there after it passed Sixt. I'd listen for the horns and watch to see the trains pass. They were tiny, being a mile or so away but I could make out individual cars and locomotives.

Thanks. I didn't realize that they still used the concrete loading dock for service. That is cool! (That boxcar is certainly weird!)
