St. Louis Delmar Loop Trolley

Postby lpetrich » Mon Mar 30, 2015 12:28 pm

Delmar Loop trolley construction set to begin in March : News
Streetcars able to operate on both battery power and overhead electric lines were dropped in favor of cars powered by overhead lines.

In addition, instead of having a turnaround at both ends of the line, streetcars will travel to one terminus, then reverse direction. Poehler said the vintage-looking streetcars will have cabs at both ends to allow drivers to operate them in either direction.

The line will be double-tracked between the University City library and the Delmar Metrolink station, and single-tracked the rest of the way. It will have 10 stops.

The Loop Trolley - Home

From The Loop Trolley - Route Map,
The 2.2-mile Loop Trolley will connect The Loop restaurant, shopping, and arts & entertainment district to Forest Park, with a stop at the Missouri History Museum.

The Loop Trolley route will run along Delmar Boulevard from the University City Library to DeBaliviere Avenue, where the trolley line will continue southward on DeBaliviere to the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park. The trolley route will include ten stops and link with two MetroLink stations along the way.

It should be done in late 2016.

I see a reference in the linked timeline to "two vintage trolleys" having been acquired in 2005. What is their heritage? Will there be any additional equipment?

Any updates on service date? Loop Trolley has been delayed from late 2016, to 2017 and 2018. Fares however have been set at $2.00 for 2-hour ticket or $5.00 for all day fare (no cash fares accepted on board).
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.

Tom,

I think the vintage trolleys are Gomco modern ones previously used on Seattle waterfront line. They have been repainted and updated.

According to their website (http://www.trolleyloop.com), two of the cars were made by Gomaco in the early 1990's for Portland, and a third is an original Melbourne car which most recently operated in Seattle--so you may already have ridden them.
