Name of BR&P yard in Buffalo (map attached)?

Postby nydepot » Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:10 am

What is the name of this BR&P Yard in Buffalo? It's up near the NYC Frontier Yard and was reached via Buffalo Creek trackage. Seems like a long way to go for just a few tracks. This is just north of the PRR/Erie/BC diamonds. Any known purpose? Thanks.

IIRC, the Fillmore Street facility was a coal yard. Remember the BR&P existed to move coal, and the facility there was an R&P coal yard. This was covered in either Pietrak's or Cooper's book but I don't have the time at the moment to dig for details. If nobody else can elaborate, I'll see what I can locate.

Nessman, are you still working in Buffalo or was that a temporary location?

OK, I found it - the references were in Pietrak's BR&P book. There are a couple editions, but in the first edition page 65 says "...one of the 0-6-0's that the road used for coal tipple work at Fillmore St."

Also page 121, speaking of the R&P Coal Co. "Their old coal yard at Clinton and Fillmore still sells coal...." (that was in 1979)

You're welcome! As for your original question, I believe it was known as "Fillmore Avenue" or perhaps "Fillmore Yard" but can't say for sure what the official designation was.
