P&W 1802 on NHCR?

Postby atsf sp » Tue Feb 17, 2009 8:34 pm

Is the P&W 1802 GP9 on the roster of the New Hampshire Central yet and no longer part of the P&W? I saw it today at the P&W Worcester yard and its P&W was crossed out and NHCR was stenciled under the cab.

The P&W 1802 was originally sold by them to the Housatonic Railroad, but was never repainted from P&W colors. Sometime last year, the HRRC sold it and the 7324 to the New Hampshire Central. It was reported that the 1802 would have wheel work at the P&W shop in Worcester, before going to New Hampshire. Whether this work has been done or not, the loco remains parked at Worcester.

Not sure if this is old news or not. NHCR 1802 has been sold and is on it's way to Montana.

Q 381 NHCR 1802 from Sectionline bridge Willard

The unit is supposedly bought by Ozark Railcar and headed for Montana

SP to Portola Railroad Museum, to CCCL, to P&W, to HRRC, to NHCR. Lotta travelling around New England, eh? And now it emigrates to the west...from whence it came.

I wish it could have stayed around, too. I enjoyed my many nights on it as a conductor, running between Middletown and Cedar Hill. I remember when it arrived in SP paint and watched it's transition into the blue and yellow of CCCL livery and the addition of an oil fired heater to keep the block cozy on those long winter nights at Middletown. It was, indeed, a priviledge to have been her crew.

It had a weird trip the last couple months. Headed up here to Maine and then to New Hampshire but upon arrival immediately headed back the same way it came. Then before anyone knew it, it was gone....

The way I understand it, this unit was sold to NHCR and had to have work done. Once completed, the unit
was sent east, and got as far as Danville Jct, when NHCR sold it. Last I heard it was headed to an excursion
line in Virginia or Maryland or somewhere.
