Eisenhower Going home for a visit

Postby steamer69 » Mon May 07, 2012 2:53 pm

The National Railway Museums Gresley A-4 4-6-2 Dwight D Eisenhower is going home for a Family Reunion.

Chcago Tribune wrote:Soon it will head back across the pond for the 75th anniversary celebration of the world speed record for steam locomotives. The record wasn't set by the London and North Eastern Railway A4 locomotive housed in a climate-controlled building in Green Bay. But since there are only six surviving A4 steam engines in the world, the Eisenhower is highly sought after.

In the article, it talks about them making an attempt at breaking the 126 mph record using one of the preserved A-4s....now that would be cool....

Chicago Tribune wrote:Organizers are discussing using one of the A4s in an attempt to break the old record.

Both Ike and Dominion of Canada or on two year visas for the Mallard Aniversary. They are supposed to be returned after that.....

Ike is now on his way over there.

I went to see the train set when it arrived in Abilene, Ks back in 1990. Actually was there to see the 844 after it went by the house that morning.
