It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived. George S. Patton, Jr.

Yes, this is an international event, especially in England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, and especially France.

Thank you and blessings to all who have served.

My cousin did an amateur radio special event with Mr. Buckles present last year. It was an absolute honor and a treat to speak to him. Thanks to all veterans!

Another Judge of Elections! (I am in Abington Township, PA.) You express my sentiments, too.

However, I'd like to go out on a limb with a few additional remarks:

1. My true 2003-2009 heroes are the anti-war protestors who take up a lot of the parking spaces in Doylestown, PA, on Tuesday nights. So, I give a backward thanks to veterans for giving these heroes of mine the right to demonstrate.

2. Any male born after around the 1950s should owe some gratitude to my contemporaries - the 1960s protestors. Their efforts contributed to the elimination of the draft/compulsory service. I traveled more in their circles due to my life circumstances, rather than those of the "wish you were here, buddy" guys serving in Vietnam. In fact, around 1970, I joined a Jewish equivalent of the USO so that I could meet guys who were serving their country rather than going around protesting the war.

3. Finally, I always felt proud that Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia honored my father and other veterans, and I think that the two replacement stadiums should be renamed Citizens Bank Veterans Stadium and Lincoln Financial Veterans Field.

Thank you to all who have served their country, with special gratitude to my brother (Vietnam) and in remembrance of my father and uncle (both World War II).

Allow me to ad my thanks to all the vets who frequent this site and to my still-living 83 year old father, Robert E. Audley, who spent WWII in the South Pacific, seeing some heavy combat on Ie Shima with a Navy amphibious unit.

Well if anyone wanted to thank me I would respond that you're very very welcome.

I served in the U.S. Army as an enlisted man in Viet-Nam from April 1971-March 1972 with the 114th Assault Helicopter Co.

No one has ever asked me, but I saw one train during those entire 11 months. A diesel switching freight cars along the waterfront in Saigon from about 800 hundred feet up (in a Huey helicopter on which I was the door gunner). :-)

Allow me to note my one 'railfanning moment' during my year in 'the Nam". One day, traveling on the main road from Downtown Saigon to Tan Son Nhut, our bus was stopped at a grade X-ing, and with a full view, i observed a GE 'export" engine hauling about ten freight cars.

That was all during my '365 and a wake-up".

Regarding my first trip 'back in The World', read about it in this piece:

rslitman:

My wifes grandfather, The Honorable Paul D'Ortona, was the president of the Philadelphia City Council when the new stadium was proposed and he was the person who came up with the name Veterans Stadium. There used to be a huge bronze plaque hanging on one of the walls that had all of the names of the city officials at the time. We tried in vain to have that removed and preserved. Our efforts were in vain.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the World War 1 memorial statue in the main hall of 30th Street Station yet.
