This thread will be for New York & Atlantic operations sightings. Post your sightings of NYAR train movements.

Just heard the RS51 going through Farmingdale @ 9:56 PM, undoubtedly led by the 271.

Good idea emfinite, I have a lot of sighting because my office overlooks Hicksville Divide.

3/15 10:44 E/B Pt. Jeff branch 155/151 with 2 boxcars
3/15 1:55 W/B P. Jeff branch 151/155 with 4 boxcars, 1 empty centerbeam

3/16 10:50 151/155 E/B Ronkonkoma branch 151/155 with 2 empty centerbeams, 1 boxcar

Last saw the 270/271 on 3/3, since then it's been 151/155.

Bay Ridge Sighting

Postby BMT » Wed Mar 17, 2004 7:40 pm

Well, at about 7:40 pm last night (Tuesday, March 16) the RS-100 passed through Flatlands with two diesels on either end of -- IIRC -- a five-car train of boxcars. If I had a camera handy, I could have gotten some nice Christmas season-type shots of the engines plying through a snow-covered ROW...

On 3/19 I spotted the 270/271 W/B from Ronknokoma Branch through Hicksville Divide with 2 boxcars, 3 hoppers and 1 full centerbeam lumber car at 1:01 First time I've seen those engines here since 3/3, the past 2 weeks have been the 151/155.

On 3/18 we had the 151/155 W/B at 12:10 with 2 boxcars and 3 gondolas, on Pt. Jeff branch, the morning E/B run was at 9:55 but I couldn't see it because an M7 was in my way.

I saw a pair of NYA GP38-2's E/B through Queens Village with a mixed bag of boxcars and tankcars around 1015 this morning, maybe 9-10 cars.

If it was at Farmingdale at 8:35, it should get out by me between 9:30 and 10:00, if it doesn't stop.

The 8:35pm is the usual time WESTBOUND through Farmingdale, so you won't see it go east (some nights it does). The road jobs ending in "1" denote a westbound movement while the "0" denotes an eastbound movement, ie: RS51 = westbound

Thanks Joe. The one reason i said that is during the summer a freight out by 56 became a usual sight rollin past on a tuesday night during the summer.

PS-I'm going to the ECLSTS to get a GP38-2 and plan to paint it NYA #270 or #261. I will post pics when I;m done.

Wanna paint mine when I get it? If I were you I would put those diesels in a model contest. When my train club (LIMRRE) gets their layout up and running, feel free to come out and run them if you want.

Mike,

John Volpi, fellow member of the forum here, painted them up for me. You should private message him here on the forum and wait for a response. I don't think he would like it if I posted his email address. His work is really amazing.

I would love to come out to your model RR club, just let me know details. There is one here in Farmingdale too called West Island which I have been meaning to join up with.
