effects on business due to Sandy

Just saw on the webpage that the LIRR was allowing heavier loads. Has the inbound shipments of construction mat. increased? What about the outbound debris?

What webpage? They have a weight restriction of 263,000lbs per car and any car over that limit would have to be specially approved by the Engineering Department. To go to 286,000lbs (the now-industry standard), engineering would have to shore up the entire infrastructure to comply before signing off on the additional weight. That can't happen due to a storm, and would not happen overnight.

Construction debris will most likely increase in the area due to the storm. However those loads generally cube out before they weight out anyway.

Had a look at Coastal on my way home last night. The pile that usually takes up the better part of the inside of the building now just about fills the building, and extends nearly double its usual length out the back. Took a picture, will try to get it up when time allows.

The amount of debris produced by this storm, on top of the usual day to day trash loads is really incredible. So yes, to answer your question, business appears to be booming in that respect.

Interesting they would be doing this. although most C&D cars are fully loaded when they leave. I'm not sure how much more can be added to each car since they are already cubed out. Possibly just in the big woodchip-type hopper cars.

BRRX is shipping again. I imagine they'll be shredding some of the 900 automobiles flooded out in the storm. MSW cars out of bushwick seem to be a bit more than before the storm - think of all the contents of the first floors of all those homes in southern queens that is now trash. It's a huge amount of trash - not sure if it's all going to the landfill through the bush or via some barge transload closer to the effected area.
